Recycled Glass Tableware - La Mediterranea

Made of 100% recycled glass, La Mediterranea is a line of table top items that offer such brilliant color and hue, you would never guess the raw materials used in their production were diverted from the landfill. La Mediterranea converts 5 million kilos (11 million pounds!) of glass each year salvaged from Spain’s urban recycling bins into glasses, goblets, vases, plates, and more in a dozen patterns and 15 delightful hues. Designed and crafted in Valencia, Spain since 1975, the process combines computerized manufacturing with artisan glassblowing techniques. via: Inhabitat

100% Recyclable Kitchen - Invitrum by Valcucine

We're always on the lookout for great kitchen design and when we find great design that happens to be green, we're even more excited. The new Invitrum line, by the Italian company, Valcucine, is made of 100% recyclable aluminum and glass. Valcucine labels each component of the cabinetry with a recycling icon, so the consumer should have no problem deciphering where each piece of the kitchen should go when it reaches the end of it's lifecycle. Very sleek, very stylish, very sustainable! (See large image below for recycling icon) Via: JetsonGreen See more Invitrum images via: Valcucine Flickr Set

Ambiente 2009 - Totem by en&is

A family of six multi-use containers, Totem, by designers en&is, is both interesting home decor and serveware all in one. We love the graduating gray to white color story and the ability to stack these symmetrically (forma simmetrica) or in a unique off-kilter (forma casuale) manner. Fun & multi-functional, our favorite combination!

Reclaimed Wood Veneers - B + N

These reclaimed-wood veneers glued to an MDF substrate are easy-to-install panels ideal for retail settings, hotel interiors and home space division applications. The veneer and substrate are FSC certified, and B+N uses low-VOC varnishes and water-based glues that don’t contain formaldehyde. The panels can be sawn, nailed, glued, and outfitted with shelving hardware.

Last year, B+N decided to introduce their reclaimed-wood version of the panels, Iconic Panels, using lumber salvaged from olive-barrel staves, razed gym bleachers, and blighted buildings. The beautiful, deep grains are so stunning and the different laser cut designs are great for many different design and trend preferences. via: Metropolis Mag

Shades of Gray - Ambiente 2009

Shades of gray, including silvery hues and metallic finishes, were all the rage at Ambiente 2009. We have seen an increase of gray at many other shows and this trip to Frankfurt was no exception. We love the many different textures and finishes applied to all shades of gray:

The Beauty of Natural Wood - River Mirrors

The beauty of natural wood with it's intricate grains and knots and waved edges forming a one-of-a-kind framing for these mirrors is innovative. Both artwork and functional decor, the River Mirrors by Caryn Moberly make a dramatic statement - especially when reflecting the greenery of nature right outside.

Lovely Lighting in Time For Valentine's Day

We spied this over at MoCo LoCo and agreed that it's a perfect example of lighting reinvented for a creative purpose. Not to sappy and just a little cheeky, designer Matt Carr bent tube lights into words with a holiday message. When viewed through a lens, each individual bulb appears as a heart, adding to the Valentine's day ambiance. Or, simply turn on the lights to give your special someone a special message. Happy Valentine's Day!

Reinventing the Basics: Lighting by AM Studio

Lighting is another one of those quick and easy ways to update your decor without committing to major reconstruction. AM Studio's line of handcrafted chandeliers, pendants, wall sconces and free standing lighting is a one-of-kind way to make an artistic statement without calling a contractor. Some of our favorites include:

Exposed Wood Framing: The V House

After yesterday's post on the Metamorfsis 1 home in Chile, we stumbled across the VHouse in Los Angeles that really seems as if it belongs in that same category of homes with unique, natural wood exteriors. The exposed wood framing of the VHouse wrapping from the exterior to the interior of the home is quite stunning and the use of native redwood planking help the home to fit comfortably in its California surroundings. Adjacent to the open kitchen and bedrooms, the courtyard was planned to be an outdoor living extension of the home.
